Striped dress for my mom
I made a dress for my mom from some red and black knit fabric I got from Joann's. I used her kurti as a pattern and just lengthened it. For the sleeves, I used a kurti and lengthened it so that I would get long sleeves. Then I just put the pieces together. It was really fast. I think I could have done a better job on the bottom hem, but the neckline came out nice. And I think it looks great on my mom, and she liked it too!

Flower pattern shift dress
I made a shift dress! I usually make gathered dresses, so this was a deviation from the usual. I think it came out well. It looks kind of like a kurti. The sleeves are kind of like puffed sleeves but the shoulder seams are a bit too low on my shoulders. I actually drafted a pattern and muslin for the bodice, but I guess need to fix the armhole part. There's a super long zipper in the back. I was planning on maybe doing a peter pan collar if I found some cool leather fabric, but I didn't, so I didn't. And that's about all the interesting things I can think of for this dress. Shift dresses are cool.
This is my "I'm so hip" pose. But at least you can see the dress and sleeves. Oh and the sleeves are actually full length, but I fold them up (I didn't hem them).
Another note: this is another one of the fabrics my dad got from India.

Elastic waist dress
I found a good use for old Indian dresses. I can hem the bottom, sew up the sides, shorten the sleeves and add elastic to the waist, and it becomes a dress!
Here's a picture of how it looked before:
Here's an after picture. I'm going to get a better picture after I fix the bottom hem a bit, but this should do for now :
Okay, I fixed the hem, and here is the dress in action. I'm kind of small in the picture, but oh well, who cares?
And I can even wear this dress with my other skirt that I just made (they used to be part of the same set):
Wow, so cool!
Edit: better picture!

Gathered orange skirt
From this...
to this!
Maybe I'll get a better picture later. I took this before ironing.
Edit: better pictures have arrived (I ironed these beforehand even though they still look a bit wrinkly)!
Ok here's my attempt at a tutorial. Comment if you want more details!
Then you attach the skirt to the waistband and sew up the side, but not all the way. Leave some room to be able to put it on and take it off, as shown below.
Sew some hooks on one side. I put four.
And sew little hook holder things on the other side. Make sure they match up.

Free T-shirt Makeovers!
I got a lot of free t-shirts, some of which were pretty big, so I refashioned a few of them.
This one is the most recent one. It was XL to begin with. I just cut off the sleeves and took in the sides. It was very quick.

I think it looks better with a sweater.
I made this peplum top a while ago. It was size small originally, but I managed to squeeze out a peplum. Hurray.
And this dress used to be an XL T-shirt. I cut the shirt in half. Then I cut off the sleeves and collar and hemmed them. I took in the sides of the top part. I gathered the bottom skirt part, but overall the dress would have been pretty short, so I added some white cloth in between to lengthen it (also from another free T-shirt). Then I sewed them all together. There are a few flaws if you look closely, but that's okay.
For this shirt, I just sewed the sides all the way like I did for the gray shirt I made a while ago from a Cotton&Curls tutorial. And then I made a curved hem.

Dress!
I really wanted to make something like this dress. I wasn't sure whether the gathers would come out well though, so I decided to go with a circle skirt. I thought the gathers might be too poofy at the waist and not enough flare at the hem, but maybe next time I'll try it. The circle skirt was quite flared out, but I kind of made it work somehow. I wore this dress to my friend's party. The picture is kind of dark; maybe I'll get another one soon.
Edit: After more than a year, here is another picture of this dress:

Coral/Orange Dress Redone!
The old dress was not that great. It looked okay with the belt, but if the belt fell off, you would have been able to see the very messy stitching, and the dress's super bagginess. Therefore, I decided to redo it. I also wanted to make a pattern with darts on the top that one of my friends showed me. I made the bottom into a half-circle skirt. It's also shorter now, so I can wear it with tights.

Coral/Orange dress
Hi,
I made a peplum top using one of my mom's old t-shirts. I traced one of my own t-shirts for the top part, and made a half-circle skirt for the bottom. I think it turned out pretty well. I will post a picture soon...once someone can take a picture of me when I happen to be wearing the shirt...
In the meantime, here is a picture of a dress I made a while ago. I got the cloth from Walmart. It was very cheap, $2.00 / yard, which is so much better than JoAnn's (so expensive).
